Admission procedure at Staffordshire University

1: Accepting the offer

A deposit of £3,500 is required to secure your place at Staffordshire University. This deposit is non-refundable, except in certain cases of visa refusal. You can find more information on how to make international payments by visiting our fees and scholarships’ page.

Please note that there are some deposit payment exceptions:

  • Applicants from Trinidad and Tobago applying for an LPC must pay a deposit of £500.
  • If you have received a letter offer for more than one course, you will be required to confirm your preferred selection with your Applicant Portal and pay a deposit if required.
  • If you contacted us through UCAS you will need to confirm that you are placing through UCAS and then forward the payment of the deposit to us. UCAS applicants will receive a letter confirming their conditional or unconditional offer once Staffordshire University has been approved as a firm or insurance choice. This letter can also be used to apply for a bank loan where appropriate.

2. Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS)

If the award you are studying requires an ATAS clearance, please visit the government website to obtain additional information.

The application process includes completing an online application form.

If you do not receive an ATAS clearance, we will not be able to confirm your offer as an unconditional visa will be denied.

After studying in the UK, if you require a visa extension for more than 3 calendar months, or there are any changes to your course content or research project - you will need to apply for another ATAS certificate.

3: Deposit payment

4: Confirmation of Acceptance for Research (CAS)

At least 3 months prior to the start of the course, we will confirm receipt of your deposit by issuing you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS), which you will receive by e-mail, and will need to be used when applying for a visa. Details of the CAS course you intend to study, Course duration, annual tuition fee, deposit amount you paid (if applicable) and which campus you will be studying on.

When the CAS is issued

  • Please check and make sure all information is accurate. You must contact the International Reception team immediately if any information is incorrect
  • If you have previously studied in the UK, you must state this as this may make a difference to your offer or CAS and may result in visa refusal
  • You cannot use the CAS to apply for a visa until 3 months before the start of the course
  • Your CAS will expire after a period of 6 months from the date it was assigned

  • Please make sure you have enough funds on site to pay for tuition and living expenses. Your CAS will indicate teaching in the first year of your course (or the entire postgraduate course). The Home Office will use the details in your CAS to confirm how much money you need for your course. For more information on fees and living expenses, please read the guide.
  • Due to the difference in exchange rates on the day, you must have additional funds in your account to avoid visa refusal
  • You will need interviews with immigration officials, the purpose of the interview is to test your credibility as a genuine student - questions will focus on reasons for coming to the UK and will include questions about your background, your educational plans and your finances.   • Please make sure you have original documents that are listed in the "Evidence Submitted" sections of the CAS and "other evidence" when applying for a visa

The university offers a program with additional features accommodation:

  • Tier 4 Students located in the UK would have to obtain additional immigration permits for the duration of their placement and complete their existing programs
  • All Tier 4 Students who find accommodation in the UK must return to their home country and apply for a Tier 4 visa prior to their placement
  • The university will provide the necessary support by issuing a CAS to students and meeting the cost of a Tier 4 visa, while students will be required to meet all other related costs.

6: When the visa is issued

  • You MUST inform the university of the results of your level 4 visa application
  • If your Tier 4 visa is issued you will need to inform the university administration of your expected UK date of arrival. Please provide this information by contacting [email protected]
  • If a visa is denied, please provide the university with a copy of the Notice of Denial
  • Please notify the International Admissions Team of any delay in your visa process or when booking your travel to the UK as the University is responsible for providing such information to the UK Visa and Immigration office
  • If you are successful in obtaining a Tier 4 visa and fail to enter university on time you will be reported to the UKVI within 10 days of your expected registration date and your UK visa will be shortened. This process cannot be undone

7: Housing

We cannot guarantee accommodation in our hostels provided that you apply for accommodation no later than 01 September. After this date we will still help you find either university managed or approved accommodation, but this will be subject to availability.
