Methodological justification for using the game in the classroom

Play, along with work and learning, is the main form of human activity. By definition, a game isthis is the type of meaningful unproductive activity, where the motive lies not in its result, but in the process itself.

Speaking about the use of games in the classroom, first of all, we must say that motive, and in this case motivation, is an integral part, the engine in the successful development of a particular subject by a student.

Currently, schoolchildren are bombarded with a large amount of information, which leads to mental overload and physical fatigue. So, over time, a child may lose the desire and motivation to study a particular subject. The use of games in the classroom can serve as an impetus for increasing a child’s motivation.

Using a game in a lesson is undoubtedly an additional bonus in a lesson, which has a number of positive factors, namely the game:

    Helps to provide psycho-emotional and physical relief to the child;

    Increases the child’s motivation to study the subject;

    Allows you to reveal your child’s talents;

    Promotes quick memorization of new information and its consolidation;

    Gives the child the opportunity to make the necessary decisions independently;

    Helps to “merge” with other activities, enriching them;

    Allows you to show the child’s “personality”;

    Promotes the development of imagination, imaginative thinking;

    Helps solve life problems that arise in knowledge, work and creativity;

    Helps the child learn to trust himself and people, recognize what should be accepted and what should be discarded, because... filter the received information;

    Helps you get closer to the team and make friends with new people.

Summarizing all of the above, we can note the fact that the game only contributes to the successful study of the subject and is not just recommended, but necessary for use in the classroom, because the result of mastering the desired topic or the necessary information will not be long in coming.

Game description

    Name of the game: English lotto using the example of the phrasal verb “togo».

    Type of game indicating the type of activity and nature of the pedagogical process : preparatory game with intellectual, educational, generalizing, developmental, controlling, productive and diagnostic activities.

    Age of participants: 14 years

    Number of participants: 10-12 people

    Game function performed: active, diagnostic, generalizing.

    Goal, tasks: goal of the game – consolidation and memorization of material on the topic “phrasal verb”togo"and the ability to apply it, as well as isolate it in a sentence.Game objectives – independently make certain decisions, develop students’ mental activity, identify and correct errors identified during the game, and summarize material on the topic.

    Expected results : Students are expected to learn how to correctly select and use a phrasal verb "togo", as well as recognize its grammatical form and lexical meaning in a sentence.

    Method and form of playing the game : the intellectual and situational game “English Lotto” is played in the classical way, i.e. like the usual lotto game, but instead of barrels, special cards are used. Students are given blank pieces of paper on which they draw a two-story house in which they place 3 windows on the top floor and 4 windows on the bottom floor, i.e. only 7 windows, because we fix 7 phrasal verbs. Students must number the windows and sign them, for example, 1 window - “godownwith", 2nd window - " gowithout" etc. (you can sign on the house “go"and then sign only a pretext).

The teacher has a number of sentences into which one or another phrasal verb must be inserted. The sentences are read out by the teacher and, if the child knows which phrasal verb needs to be inserted, he raises his hand and calls the number of the box with this verb, for example “1”. If this answer option is correct, then the teacher gives the card to the child and the child closes the required window. As a result, children must close all the windows in the house. It is important that students do not shout out from their seats, but rather raise their hands so that others can listen carefully to the teacher and concentrate on the game.

    Level of complexity of intellectual activity : average level

    Game duration : 20-25 minutes (of which 5 minutes to prepare for the game)

    Degree of complexity of the actions performed : complex (multi-situational) game.

conclusions

The goal of the English Lotto game has been achieved. By the end of the game, students can easily navigate phrasal verbs, namely: remember and consolidate their forms and meanings, and also easily isolate them in a sentence.

Reflection

The English Lotto game has been played several times, and children really love this game, despite the average level of difficulty. Accordingly, characterizing the game as medium difficulty, it is likely to expect some difficulties that schoolchildren may encounter. It is also necessary to be aware of the fact that the English Lotto game cannot be played in every lesson, because... it requires careful preparation on the part of the subject teacher, as well as basic knowledge of the material with which students will work. Those. Schoolchildren must study this material carefully in order to be well versed in phrasal verbs found in different sentences, as well as be able to isolate them.

As recommendations, you can consider more simplified material, for example “differentwaysofcookingfood" and here consider adjectives such as "scrambled, mixed, graded" etc. and match them with pictures showing foods prepared in different ways. It is always easier to work with images and children thus remember words even better. In fact, you can consider different versions of the game and adapt it to classes of different levels; it all depends on the skill of the subject teacher.

For English lessons with children in kindergarten (see, for example, ) you will need a lotto with images of various animals, namely: squirrel, deer, bird, wolf, fox, owl, hedgehog, bear, hare, raccoon, cow, horse, pig, sheep, goat, rooster, hen, chick, duck, cat, dog, guinea pig (or rat), parrot, fish. In subsequent lessons, lotto can be “expanded” by adding new cards as you progress through a particular topic (“Family”, “Home”, “Toys”, etc.).

The cards, designed for English lessons, are larger than those in regular lotto. Depending on the age of the children and the amount of vocabulary they are learning, you can decide for yourself what the optimal number of pictures should be on each card (from 4 or more). You can arrange the pictures in one row (I used exactly these cards in my lessons) or in two rows. In my opinion, it is not advisable to have too many pictures on a card, so as not to drag out the game too much. You can always give the children, for example, two cards in one row.

So, buy a set of cardboard (white or colored - at your discretion). Each card will be equal in size to an A4 sheet of cardboard cut lengthwise (you can, of course, make them larger or smaller, but, in my opinion, this one is optimal). Now you need identical pictures of animals whose names you went through with the children. Where can I find such pictures? Once upon a time, I sat and drew them myself, or cut out silhouettes of animals from colored paper and pasted them onto cards, spending a lot of time on this. In principle, you can use this method. Another way is to use Internet sites that offer children's coloring books or just pictures. We type in a search engine, for example, “guinea pig, coloring book” or“hedgehog, picture (drawing)» , find the picture, reduce it to the desired size. If you have a color printer, great; if not, you can simply print out the coloring book and then color the picture manually. Calculate how many pictures you will need. For example, each card has 4 pictures, you are going to make 10 cards, which means you will need 40 pictures in total. The pictures are carefully cut out and pasted onto cardboard.

When sticking pictures, consider the following points:

  • the number of pictures depicting the same animal can be any, you can make, for example, 3 dogs, 5 cats, 6 guinea pigs, as long as the total number of pictures is 4 times more than cards (in our case, there should be 40 ).
  • Animal images should not be repeated on one card
  • It is desirable that there are no absolutely identical cards

After you prepare large cards and glue pictures with images of animals on them (separating them with a line), make 40 small cards from colored cardboard of such a size that each can completely cover the image of one animal. (Children will use small cards to cover the pictures on the large cards when they hear the name of the animal and find its image on their large card).

You will also need separate pictures depicting the same animals that are depicted on large lotto cards (one picture depicting each animal). Children will pull these pictures out of a special bag. They can be replaced partially or completely with toys.

Did you calculate everything, cut it out, glue it? The lotto for an English lesson in kindergarten is ready! In English class, give each child one (or two) large and four (or eight) small cards. The teacher (or the children themselves, one at a time)) pulls out pictures of animals, people, objects (or similar toys) from the bag. The presenter loudly names in English the object depicted in the picture, the children cover with small cards the pictures depicting the desired object, a person, an animal, if they have them on a large card. For more information about using lotto in English lessons, see .

I would like to note that this lotto may be useful for parents to independently study English words at home with their child. But why only English? Lotto can also be used to expand a child’s vocabulary in their native language. IfDo you know other interesting games that are suitable for English classes with kids, we will be glad and pleasantly surprised if you are talking about them. Good luck to you!

In the process of learning English with my child, I tried many ways to improve the memorization of English words, and one of the most effective was playing Lotto in English. Words are remembered easily and with pleasure. I started looking for lotto in English on other topics, but it turned out that the market is not replete with varieties of this wonderful game. So I made my own version of lotto in English and printed it out. I am posting it below, it is free to download.

My lotto uses the vocabulary of the topics “household appliances”, “useful things”, “dishes” and “furniture”, 84 words in total.

Lotto game rules in English:

You can even play lotto together with your child. To make it more fun, “invite” several dolls to the game. My daughter is always rooting for her favorite doll and is rushing to find out if she has a voice item on the game board.

So, the presenter takes the card and, without showing the image to the children, asks: Who has kettle/lid/fork? Who will be the first to say I have kettle/lid/fork, or Doll has kettle/lid/fork, he takes the card and covers the found item with it. The first one to cover all the fields wins. My daughter was so impressed by the game that she is now acting as a presenter.
